The tallies are in! Butler Catholic School raised over $660 during the 2024 Catholic Schools Week Penny Wars!
Penny Wars is a fundraising competition favorite at BCS, with grade levels competing against each other to collect the most coins for a good cause.
This year, BCS’s combined Penny Wars donation of $661.39 went to Isaiah 117 House, a non-profit dedicated to providing comfort to displaced children while they await services through the child welfare system. Third grade—which won this year’s Penny Wars by bringing in the most money during Catholic Schools Week—had the honor of
choosing where to send the proceeds.
It took members of Student Council three weeks to roll over 6,000 pennies! Once they were rolled, Armco Credit Union kindly let STUCO trade in the pennies for a check to Isaiah 117 House. Students presented the check at the end of March, during a special visit from representatives of the organization.
This year’s Penny Wars event was rounded out with a special opportunity March 14! To celebrate Pi Day, STUCO bought pies for students. Representing the third grade Penny Wars champions, student Martin Shatlock was given the honor of pieing principal John Hazur in the face!
We’re proud of the generosity and hard work all our students showed during Catholic Schools Week and this year’s Penny Wars!
