Students Prepare for National History Day

Butler Catholic School students in seventh and eighth grade are preparing to compete in this year’s National History Day events!

National History Day is a national educational program that helps students in grades six through 12 practice research, project management, and presentation skills by challenging them to investigate significant historical topics. The program encourages students to visit libraries, archives, and museums for their research, introducing them to the academic approach to preparing their findings for this year’s topic.

Last year was the first year BCS participated in NHD. This year, every student in seventh and eighth grade at BCS will be part of the NHD competition, with the goal of reaching the state competition at the University of Scranton in April.

On Sept. 17, BCS students walked to the Butler Area Public Library to begin researching for their 2024-2025 NHD projects! The 2025 theme of NHD is “Rights and Responsibilities in History.” Students are challenged to address both topics, recognizing that neither element can exist without the other. Using local resources, our students are well on their way to preparing for the upcoming schedule of NHD competitions!
