The second annual Butler Catholic School Summer Garden Camp got off to a great start this week!
Over the course of three weeks, campers will be learning about nature by spending time outside, participating in craft projects, and taking special field trips.
This year, the theme of Week 1 was flowers! Campers spent lots of time in the school garden and greenhouse, and as well as putting together special booklets about the symbolism of different flowers. They also made special flower crafts using buttons and felt, and hand-stuffed flower pillows, which came in handy when they took a break to read The Secret Garden.
The first week of camp also included a trip to the New Wilmington Produce Auction, where local farmers sell their fruits and vegetables to area restaurants, farm stands, and markets. At the auction, BCS bought peaches, nectarines, zucchini, and purple cauliflower to use in the school cafeteria! While at the auction, campers taste-tested the nectarines and gave them a thumbs up.
There’s lots more in store for kids over the next two weeks of Summer Garden Camp! Find us on Facebook and Instagram to see what’s happening!
