Butler Catholic School recently hosted All Saints Pastor Fr. Kevin Fazio and Director of Evangelization Tom McConnell during a special assembly!
The event introduced students in kindergarten through grade 8 to the concept of being “429 people.” The term refers to Ephesians 4:29, which says, “Do not let any (hurtful, negative, criticizing, or unwholesome) words come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs...."
Fr. Kevin and Mr. McConnell shared stories with students about respecting each other and valuing personal gifts.
“We tried to make it fun and interactive with stories and activities that show how our words have the power to lift up, encourage, and bring out the best in each other,” Mr. McConnell said. “They can also hurt our friends and classmates if we use our words to gossip, criticize, or tease them.”
During the assembly, students participated in several lessons that showed them how what they say and think about other people can impact their relationships. Students also watched a short video about a classroom that bands together to help fill the empty lunchbox of a classmate in need.
“We wanted to challenge and encourage them to be on the lookout each day to see who's ‘lunch box’ they can fill up and make a positive difference in their day!” Mr. McConnell said.
At the end of the presentations, teachers received their own "429" banners for their classrooms to help students remember the importance of treating each other with kindness and generosity!
