Keeping the faith at BCS

Butler Catholic School has celebrated many blessings in recent weeks, from the annual BCS Pumpkin Roll to the school Halloween party.

While the festivities have been exciting, BCS has also been participating in a number of events that allow students and staff to express their faith beyond the classroom.

“That’s the center of why Butler Catholic exists,” explained Principal Sister John Ann Mulhern.

One favorite annual event is the second grade All Saints Play. Students learn about the lives of and dress as individual saints before participating in a presentation for their families and teachers.

This year, the Oct. 27 play was held in the BCS chapel and livestreamed for those who couldn’t watch it in person. Second graders had a dress rehearsal before their show that was attended by first grade students, giving them a sneak peek at what’s expected of them next year.

BCS has also brought back in-school Eucharistic Adoration for students. This practice, which takes place on Mondays in the school chapel, was temporarily suspended over the last two school years as a COVID-19 precaution.

Now that it’s back, students and teachers are excited to participate. Taking time out of a busy academic day to be in the presence of Christ is a gift we’re blessed to offer as a Catholic school. The positive effects of adoration are evident among students as well as staff.

“Sometimes it’s just about sitting in silence,” Sister John Ann said.

With the Advent season just around the corner, BCS continues to make the Gospel the heart of all its operations.
