October has been an exciting month for students and faculty at Butler Catholic School!
Annual Blessing of the Animals Oct. 4 was the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi! At BCS, we celebrated by holding our annual blessing of animals in the school grotto. Led by our fourth graders and All Saints Parish Deacon Mitch, students and staff participated in a special prayer ceremony. Per BCS tradition, our fourth-grade families were invited to join and bring their family pets to be blessed! Students in other grades were permitted to bring a stuffed animal to represent the special creatures in their lives.
Fire Safety Day Students in preschool and kindergarten had a special visit from Butler City Firefighters IAFF Local 114 Oct. 7! They learned about fire safety and what to do in emergencies. Butler firefighters talked to them about making emergency plans; calling 9-1-1; and how to stop, drop, and roll. Students also had opportunities to tour two fire engines and sit inside the trucks!
Pumpkin Roll The annual BCS pumpkin roll was Oct. 8! This has been a favorite annual event at BCS for years. Students in each grade choose a special pumpkin as a class and decorate it leading up to the event. Grades compete against each other in pumpkin rolls, racing to see which pumpkins roll fastest down the hill in the lower school parking lot. This year, Mrs. Briggs’ preschoolers won the 2024 Pumpkin Roll trophy!
Thank you to all the volunteers and staff members who help with these and other school events!
