With a new year comes new adventures! One of Butler Catholic School’s goals for this year is to reinstate some favorite pre-pandemic field trips…and arrange new ones.
The field trip season kicked off Sept. 21 with an after-school trip to Metrick’s Harvest View Farm in Butler. Chaperoned by parents and BCS staff, over 40 students participated in the trip to learn about and harvest potatoes. Farm owner Ken Metrick taught visitors about the history of potato farming in Butler County and how his family farm came to be one of the last locations in the area to grow potatoes commercially.
The outing was open to BCS Garden Club students in third through sixth grades, giving them an opportunity to see where one of America's favorite foods comes from. Being involved first-hand with the harvest provided students with a special understanding of the work and patience that goes into agricultural farming.
The collaboration and volunteerism of community members like Mr. Metrick, his crew, and the parents who assisted with the trip ensure BCS is able to provide students with unique real-life experiences outside the classroom.
