Butler Catholic School had some cold-blooded visitors this month!
Students and staff from all grade levels attended an exciting event in the BCS gym Dec. 13 to learn all about reptiles! Presented by staff members of the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium, we learned what makes an animal a reptile; where reptilians can be found; and how certain species of reptiles live and grow.
Students specifically learned about turtles, lizards, crocodiles, and snakes. Hands-on lessons showed students what makes each group of reptiles special and how they’ve adapted to their environments. They also got to see some amazing things like a giant turtle shell!
During the presentation, we also got to meet some of the reptiles that call Pittsburgh Zoo home. This included Bill the Eastern box turtle, Pedro the Solomon Islands monkey-tailed skink, and Kindu the 33-year-old African ball python! Though students did not hold or touch these scaly guests, they were able to see each creature up close.
