Basketball season is well underway, and student athletes playing for Butler Catholic School have been working hard and learning lots this year!
At BCS, students in grades 3 through 8 have an opportunity to join school basketball teams at developmental, junior varsity, and varsity levels. Students compete against teams across the Diocese of Pittsburgh throughout the season, hosting some games in the BCS gym and traveling to other schools for the rest.
Some of our BCS players had an exciting opportunity this month to scrimmage in the ‘big leagues’—at Duquesne University!
Members of our 3rd and 4th-grade basketball teams recently traveled to Duquesne to meet the women’s basketball team and coaching staff before a college game. The first hour of the visit, BCS players scrimmaged each other to get a feel for what playing on a college court is like. After the scrimmage, they spent time talking to the Duquesne team, learning a little about the different states and countries they’re from and how they ended up playing basketball in Pittsburgh.
Our athletes and their families enjoyed a meal together in one of the gym club rooms before the women’s basketball game. During the game, players got to watch the entire event from reserved seats directly behind the Duquesne women’s bench!
At BCS, we know how important it is to foster a competitive environment where athletes learn respect for each other, themselves, and the game. Events such as the Duquesne trip give players a chance to experience and put those values into practice!
