Butler Catholic School held its annual May Crowning of Mary in the school grotto on May 13. The ceremony is a school tradition that celebrates the Blessed Mother with prayers, music, and a special crown of flowers!
Led by Jennifer Friel’s fifth grade class, this year’s ceremony included a special visit from All Saints Parish Deacon Jim Shope and the Knights of Columbus. Students, staff, and fifth grade parents gathered in the grotto to participate in intercessory prayers and songs while fifth graders Taetum Dougherty and Sawyer McConnell draped the school’s
outdoor statue of Mary with a crown of flowers and a rosary.
After the ceremony, kindergarteners in Traci Ritson’s class released the butterflies they’ve been studying! Simba, Skittles, Mojo, and Wonder Woman were hatched as part of a classroom project in which students get to study and see first-hand the lifecycle of insects. As they were released in honor of Mary, the butterflies flew off to find a new home among the flowers planted in the grotto.
