“We have a total of 22 girls playing from Butler Catholic, St. Wendelin, and Holy Sepulcher schools,” said Coach Greg Deal.
BCS has two varsity and one junior varsity team this year, a solid number from a coaching perspective. Led by Coach Deal with assistance from volleyball parents as needed, the players have already made a strong impression after their first few games.
“This season, we have a stronger focus on volleyball basics and teamwork,” Deal explained. “The girls are really coming together, and it is so fun to watch their development.”
The BCS teams play games—a number of which are held at BCS on weekends—across the northern part of the Pittsburgh Dioceses against teams such as Holy Cross and Blessed Trinity schools. This allows athletes to test their skills against and learn from a variety of opponents, leading to some interesting matchups.
“The games are always exciting,” Deal added. “I would suggest anyone who can, come watch these girls (play)!”
