The Butler Catholic School Maker Space has been hopping with special projects in recent weeks!
Located on the second floor of BCS, the Maker Space provides students with a dedicated space to learn technical skills and application. Recently, students have been involved in a number of projects with BCS teacher Kristen Singleton that not only test their problem solving and teamwork abilities, but show them ways their work can benefit others.
Students in sixth grade have been working together for Shoes with a Purpose. Shoes with a Purpose is a special project that teaches students how to build load-bearing shoes, designed to show them how to think about local non-profits and the work they do.
In second grade, students crafted handmade ‘monsters.’ These monsters were then featured characters in stories the students wrote called How I Met My Monster.
“We used the green screen to place both ourselves and monsters into the story,” explained Mrs. Singleton.
Using their own artwork and film techniques, third grade students have been learning about and conducting stop motion animation with school technology. Meanwhile, students in seventh grade have been focusing on architecture and design by using everyday materials like paper to build rollercoasters and dream homes.
