Several Butler Catholic School students recently competed at the University of Scranton Pennsylvania State Competition for National History Day!
National History Day is a national educational program that helps students in grades six through 12 practice research, project management, and presentation skills by challenging them to investigate significant historical topics.
This year’s theme was “Turning Points in History,” and participating students were allowed to pick any topic at any point in history up until 2004. Working either as individuals or in groups, competitors display their research via a paper, museum exhibit, historical performance, website, or documentary.
Sixteen BCS students in grades six through eight advanced to this year’s state Region 3 round of the competition at Westminster College in March: Carter White, Xavier Grenci, Isla Leyland, Sofia Matonak, Thomas Edwards, Guerin Hammonds, Maksim Musko, Leslie Best, Sarah Burd, Delaney Kelley, Isabella Leroy, Maddigan Smith, Alexa Coyle, Giuliana Dalcamo, Megan Eicher, and Grace Johns.
In April, Xavier Grenci, Guerin Hammonds, Maksim Musko, Thomas Edwards, Leslie Best, Sofia Matonak, Isla Leyland, Sarah Burd, and Isabella Leroy represented BCS at the University of Scranton state competition. Xavier Grenci also qualified for run offs, advancing to the state finalist round.
We’re proud of all out BCS students who participated in this year’s NHD events across Pennsylvania!
