Butler Catholic School fourth and fifth grade students took a special field trip Nov. 4!
Students visited Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, where they worked with Director of Education for the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania Chris Kubiak to learn about birding. Students also talked about raptors and had the chance to meet a red-tailed hawk, American kestrel, and screech owl!
Birding is a growing interest at BCS, as our school garden welcomes several avian varieties throughout the year. Rae Harrison, director of environmental programming at BCS, is integrating birding into her outdoor education curriculum and looking for opportunities to teach students about birds in our region!
