Butler Catholic School has recognized the first recipients of the John and Dorothy Gianneschi Scholarship!
Eighth graders Gabriel Kappler and Madalyn Krill were named as the first-ever award recipients during a whole school liturgy March 21.
Established in 2025, the scholarship is available to any eighth-grade BCS student who will be furthering his or her Catholic education at St. Joseph High School in Natrona Heights. Students must have good academic and behavioral standing at BCS to be eligible.
Established by Lois Gianneschi, a long-time supporter of BCS, the purpose of this scholarship is to make Catholic high school education financially accessible to families. The scholarship is awarded via a one-time payment of $5,000 per recipient. To apply, students must submit a handwritten essay (1,000-1,250 words) meant to provide the applicant’s viewpoint and voice on a variety of subjects based solely on his or her current knowledge and opinions. Students can’t rely on internet searches, artificial intelligence, pre-written or computer-generated essays or text, or any other person’s input. All essays are subjected to a review process to gauge authenticity. Applicants are also asked to participate in a 15-minute interview with the scholarship founder.
St. Joseph High School representatives Jennifer MacNeil and Jill Szwed visited BCS to recognize Gabe and Madalyn and congratulate them as future Spartans!
