BCS offers a wide variety of activities for students. There's something for everyone!
Band
Students in grades four through eight have the opportunity to join the school band. Instrumental music lessons are available during the school day, and participating students perform at two band concerts each year.
Theater Program
One of the most anticipated fine arts programs of the year is the all-school musical. All students in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to participate in this activity.
Forensics
Forensics is a competitive public speaking program that builds confidence, poise, and critical thinking skills. Students in grades five through eight compete against teams from other schools involved in the program in the Diocese of Pittsburgh throughout the year.
Garden Club
Third through sixth grade students have the opportunity to participate in after school meetings to become certified Junior Master Gardeners. The Junior Master Gardener (JMG) program is a university cooperative extension system created and managed by Texas A&M AgriLife, and led here at Butler Catholic School by local Master Gardener RaeLynne Snyder. The JMG program engages children in hands-on group and individual learning experiences that promote a love of gardening, and develop an appreciation for the environment. JMG also inspires students to be of service to others through service learning and leadership development projects, and rewards them with certification and recognition.
Junior Achievement
Junior Achievement brings the real world to students through hands-on curriculum delivered by a trained classroom volunteer. This program encourages work-readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills.
PA Junior Academy of Science
PJAS is a statewide competition that encourages and supports students’ interest in science investigation. While all BCS middle school students participate in a science fair each year as part of our science curriculum, older students have the opportunity to present their project at a PJAS regional competition, with the goal of earning a spot at the statewide competition.
Student Council
This leadership program is available to students in fourth through eighth grade. Students in seventh and eighth grades are the elected officers. The general membership is comprised of elected homeroom representatives from grades four through eight. STUCO provides opportunities for the student body to engage in a variety of projects that promote the spirit of the Gospel mission.
